A BIT ABOUT ME

My name is Lindsay Booth and I live in the wonderful village of Box close to the city of Bath. After many years working in graphic design I decided to retrain as an upholsterer, an equally creative yet more physical profession. I enjoy working with my hands, using a variety of materials and techniques to breathe new life into a chair or sofa.

I spent four years studying the craft of upholstery at The London Metropolitan University, previously known as the London School of Furniture. In 2014 I was awarded First Prize by the Worshipful Company of Upholders for traditionally reupholstering this Ernest Race DA2 chair. In 2016 I gained my Diploma in upholstery from the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers.

After leaving London Met I co-founded The London Upholstery House where I happily upholstered a wide range of both commercial and domestic furniture before our move to Box.

WHAT I DO

I love the variety that comes with being an upholsterer. The different styles and periods of furniture require different approaches. From antique furniture needing traditional upholstery methods and materials to modern furniture, each piece makes it's own demands. And the amount of work needed to bring a piece back to life, from straightforward recovering to taking a chair right back to the frame,  repairing the frame, stripping and refinishing the show wood, I can create a unique piece of furniture that will last for years to come.

BEFORE

This stunning but ailing Victorian sofa needed lots of tlc to restore it to its former glory. The springing in the seat had completely collapsed and had to be replaced.

AFTER

As well as new hand lashed cone springs, new feather wrapped foam cushions were ordered to make this sofa comfortable again. The client chose an elegant pale blue linen by Linwood.
